heard this line from bamboo’s version of englishman. he emphasized the lesson of the song by singing repeatedly the line.
because of this, the thought of my professor in speech communications came to mind. maam tanoy was really an ideal UP professor. she has once shared with us the story about her nephew being her student on the same course. The father of her nephew, her cousin, asked her why did she gave 5 to her nephew…and guess what she answered? “i was going to give him a 7! but because he’s my nephew i gave him a 5 instead…” hehehe…see the character?!
now, going back to the englishman topic, maam always provided us with activities which made the course really interesting. every meeting, we were assigned to make our own speeches. those speeches should really come from us to be able to present it in front without the ahhhs and the aamms… you see, it was always saw to it that the speeches should be true, without the pretentions and everything to be able to talk freely and smoothly.
we had this one activity where we put in a piece of paper why we should follow the rule of being ourselves. simple answers came out, but very appealing to the mind.
you see, it’s just not being yourself when you make speeches or when you talk in front of a crowd, but it is being yourself even if you’re the only person in a room. because honesty really what makes you!
a gentleman will walk but never run…
